Mid 19th Century, Central Tibet
Vegetal Pigments on Wood
Standing on three collapsible panels, this folding table exhibits beautiful carvings meant to simulate bamboo. Tiny, four-petal flowers embellish the surface in cardinal points. In Tibet, folding tables like this were most likely used for outdoor religious ceremonies, or when Lamas would go to villages and preach. Manuscripts would be placed upon it, and the table could be folded up for easy transport.
